Atlantic crossing and the Baltic Sea

I took the Smyril Line ferry from Torshavn in the Faroe Islands to Hirtshals, in Denmark which took 2 days and nights. The ferry left Torshavn at 7pm in the dark and I stayed on deck, freezing, but determined to watch the lights of Torshavn disappear til the last speck, already missing the place and wondering if I will ever come back, and needing to say goodbye until there was nothing left to see and say goodbye to anymore! Arrived in a storm and left in the calm.

The 2 day crossing was calm, and the skies and sea magnificent. We went round the top of the Shetland Islands to the tip of Denmark. I later painted some small mixed media paintings inspired by the sea, the sky and the light on this trip.

Once in Denmark after leaving the comfort of the ferry, a cold walk followed, to a place called Tornby Strands where i stayed in a tiny cabin in a camping ground. Later in the evening, a walk down to the coast and a small photographic documentation followed.

I was keen to get to Finland at this stage, so decided on a Ferry to Gothenberg, then a train to Stockholm, stopped over in both of these cities for a few nights each, but the highlight for me was the ferry trip that I took which crossed the Baltic Sea from Stockholm to Turku to see and experience the Sea Ice. A million photos later….and here is one of them. I would like to do some artwork about the sea ice.
